1 Photographer + 1 Chef = 5 Elements

Every year, supporters of KIDS Center in Bend Oregon come together to create an exclusive, high-end wine and food event series for more than 800 wine-loving guests. The event is culminated with a live-auction. In the past, I have donated photos that were sold in their silent auctions, but this year I wanted to do something completely different.

Rather than donate an existing image, I teamed up with 2-time James Beard Award semi-finalist, Chef Joe Kim, to create a series of delicious still life photos. We worked together for several days, upstairs in his restaurant, Five Fusion, in Bend OR. What we came up with was a collaboration of lighting, composition, props, food and Chef Joe’s incredible talent. The series of 5 still life food photographs represents each of the traditional Chinese five elements, also known as Wu Xing; Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.

The final images are 20″ x 24″, matted within a 28″ x 32″ frame. Only 5 editions of this series exist.¬†Only 1 remains available. Number 1 in the series was sold at the live auction to a very happy Oregon family.
